This is what Eli insisted he wear to Sam's Club a few days ago...a Naval Air Ambulance hat and a tie... What can I say? He knows how to accessorize.

The kids and I were back in the kitchen this week making banana bread
Did you know that 2 1/3 cups of bananas= 7 bananas?! At least bananas are cheap.
Like Mother, like son, he has a liberal hand with nutmeg! Ahhh, I love nutmeg.
Brynn got to lick the spoon this time
mmm she likes! Except the finished product was not very good, at all. I found the recipe on recipezaar, it recieved hundreds of high ratings, so I figured it must be good. But it was heavy and a total waste of 7 bananas! I have yet to find a good banana bread recipe, so please, for the love of bananas, will you share?

An apple a day keeps the doctor away...
It's been a week and my kids are completely healthy! Yay!

One of Our Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens; (I do love the rain, when will it rain again in Corpus? Kittens? Eh, I could go either way)
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens; (Love herbal tea, not the cold)
Brown paper packages tied up with strings; (who doesn't love presents?)
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels; (I've had few encounters with horses, but sure, I like them, and yessss, crisp apple strudels)
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles; (no, yes, and no. Doorbells send me into a panic that my dog will start barking and wake up the kids, even if they aren't asleep. Never been a fan of schnitzel, just ask my Mom about rotkohl growing up)
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings; (Geese aren't the friendliest, if you ask me)
These are a few of my favorite things.

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes; (especially if it's my daughter!)
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes; (like I mentioned, not one for the cold, but snow is good for a day or two)
Silver-white winters that melt into springs; (no thank you)
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

After reading that through I realized Julie Andrews and I have less in common than I thought. The main difference being that she (or maybe Maria?) apparently loves really cold weather and I do not. I like Californian winters, it gets cold for a few months but hardly ever dips to snow levels. Anyways, the dog has been biting at our house. I just cannot keep my kids healthy, if you read often you know they've been sickies for awhile. The newest delight? Strep. This is the first time Eli has had a sore throat and can tell me about it, and boy has he. I do feel really bad for him though, he keeps begging for more medicine and for me to make it better. So, to help us all feel better, we take up one of our favorite things, cooking!
I had some blueberries that were threatening to go bad before I used them all, so we tried out this recipe from Pioneer Woman. And let me tell you, they really are the "awesome-est" blueberry muffins (at least that I have made).
Eli loves to help me out in the kitchen and I love including him. It's so much fun to let him help and watch him get excited about it. I used to love working with my Mom in the kitchen and I can remember doing so at a young age, I hope it's something Eli will remember.
But maybe he has ulterior motives?? He does get lots of taste tests. We made these muffins during the dark ages of pneumonia and it seemed to cheer him up. I'm thinking banana bread tonight..."and then we won't feel sooooo bad!"

(If it's not obvious, I had the Sound of Music on last night.
Yes, Jake is out of town. He refuses to watch that movie since his Mom used to make
them watch it with her as punishment when they were bad, not a bad idea!)
